Product Tip: Best practices for simultaneous tasks
There are times in a workflow when you want multiple assignees to act on a step simultaneously. There are two ways to do this in Kissflow using Parallel branches or a Single step with multiple assignees. You may be confused about which one to choose. Let's see with a sample example.
Use cases
The first is employee onboarding. At a certain section of the workflow, you want the IT, Finance, and Admin teams to act simultaneously as a part of the onboarding process. None of the steps are dependent on each other, but to move forward in the workflow, all of them need to complete. Each team has slightly different data you want to expose on the form and different fields to enter data into.
In this case, parallel branches are the right choice because you want the form details to appear differently. Also, if there are situations where a candidate doesn’t need to have all three tasks happen, you could write a condition to allow for that.
In the case of single step with multiple use cases, you need to get a purchase order approved by three people: the department head, the location head, and the purchasing manager. Similarly, they don’t need to happen in a particular order, but all of them must approve before moving on. All three will review the same information and provide their approval. The single step with multiple assignees is the right choice in this case. All of the approvers will always need to act, and they are all looking at the same data.
