Introducing Dependent Dropdown in Kissflow

Hello

We are excited to announce the release of dependent dropdown. It is a dropdown whose values are limited or affected based on the field selected in another dropdown or any other relevant field. They can be a series of dropdowns dependent on each other to access the refined data based on your filter criteria.

Why?

  • Users could not directly refer to a dataset’s field while creating a dropdown (list is static).
  • Users could not create dropdowns that will show options depending on any previous input by the user.
  • Users had to use a lookup field for cases that weren’t intuitive for a simple dropdown use case(where references are not required).

Example use cases:

  • John has a dataset “employee master,” all the relevant information like employee name, designation, department, manager, etc., are stored. If he wants to create a dropdown in a form that should list all the available departments in his organization, John need not create a separate list and maintain the same data there. Now, John can create a dropdown field directly and source it to the “employee master” dataset’s area (department).
  • Mike has built a form for his users to order groceries. Mike has a wide variety of grocery products in his keep, and he has appropriately categorized them into many relevant classifications. Now, mike wants his users to drill down into the appropriate classifications to select only the products relevant to the previously selected classifications. Mike previously used “lookup” fields in Kissflow to solve this problem. But it wasn’t intuitive enough for this case since lookup fields are references and not just values. Now, Mike can use the same dataset to create cascading dropdowns in the form with the help of filters.
